Iran's FM:
"Iran to Respond Morocco's decision to cuts ties with IRI"
(TEHRAN-ISCA NEWS AGENCY): Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki said on Saturday that Morocco's recent decision to cut its diplomatic ties with Iran was "surprising" so Iran will respond to it.
"Of course it is the decision made by the Moroccan government itself, but the move is surprising," Mottaki told a news conference, adding that Iran will make a statement later Saturday to respond it.
Morocco's Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Friday that Morocco has cut its diplomatic ties with Iran following Tehran's remarks over Bahrain.
Iran's former Majlis speaker, Ali-Akbar Nateq-Nouri, criticized the last Iranian monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, for giving up sovereignty over the island of Bahrain.
Iranian officials say the remarks have been misinterpreted and that Iran respects the sovereignty and independence of all neighboring and regional countries.
Nateq-Nouri later explained that he had only intended to compare historical events before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
In his press conference, Mottaki also criticized Morocco for shunning an international summit in Tehran in support of Palestinians.
The decision was triggered by Iran's "inadmissible attitude" against Morocco, and its "interference" in the country's religious affairs, the release was quoted by Morocco's official MAP news agency as saying.
The move came after the North African country recalled last week its representative in Tehran for consultations for a one-week period after Iran issued a release containing "unacceptable language" against Morocco.
